Many elements make a good road trip, not least the company. But it’s more than that. It’s giving each other time to be apart and knowing when to meet up again. It’s tolerating each others’ idiosyncrasies and giving things a go.
On this trip I entered a Maccers for the first time in about 20 years – honestly. And it’s not about snobbery. It’s about chickens and packaging and world-wide franchises. Mostly it’s about chickens and packaging.
I also discovered that I might be an aficionado of 3 card poker. Last time I entered a casino was at a similar conference in Auckland. This time we went to the gaming tables. Choice ! I felt as if I had entered a belated adulthood.
There are some other ingredients for an excellent road trip: answers to questions and good weather. There are the questions about life stories but also important things to know like: what IS the Welsh rugby anthem (Bread of heaven), what IS the life cycle of a pine tree (25 years average) and is there a Swedish waitress in Hamilton (yes).
It’s also a love of laughter and an understanding of the joys of irony, sarcasm, understatement and ready repartee.
Thanks heaps guys. Haven’t laughed so much in aaaaages.
